⚠️

June 18-24, 2023 marks Lightning Safety Awareness Week, and here at Seven Hills Fire District, we want to ensure the safety of our community. Lightning can be a powerful force of nature, and it's crucial to understand how to stay safe when thunderstorms roll in.

Here are some important tips to keep in mind:

1️⃣ Seek Shelter: When thunder roars, go indoors! Find a sturdy building or a fully enclosed vehicle. Avoid open areas, tall trees, and metal objects during storms.

2️⃣ Stay Inside: Lightning can still strike even if it's not raining. Wait for at least 30 minutes after the last rumble of thunder before heading back outdoors.

3️⃣ Unplug Electronics: Protect your devices by disconnecting them from electrical outlets during a thunderstorm. Power surges caused by lightning can damage sensitive electronics.

4️⃣ Stay Away from Water: Avoid swimming, bathing, or washing dishes during a storm. Lightning can travel through plumbing and pose a serious risk of electrocution.

5️⃣ Stay Informed: Keep an eye on weather forecasts and alerts. Stay tuned to local news, radio, or reliable weather apps to stay informed about thunderstorm warnings in your area.

6️⃣ Educate Others: Share this post with your friends, family, and neighbors to raise awareness about lightning safety. Together, we can help everyone stay safe and prepared!

Remember, lightning can strike from miles away, even if the storm isn't directly overhead. By following these safety measures, you can significantly reduce the risk of lightning-related accidents and keep yourself and your loved ones safe.
